Inspired by my hometown Amsterdam, I made Les Déesses de Vélo (Bicycle Goddesses).
Here is the liberty and the joy to live as one desires; the young women on their bicycles embody this.
The photos are a representation of the possibility of happiness.
Gerrit Jan Wolffensperger on Les Déesses de Vélo:
‘Campert began to photograph the girls on bikes inspired by an intense feeling of joy she had in the spring, and that joy is visible, made almost tangible.
They evoke in me the association with writer Martin Bril’s ‘Skirtsday’
(i.e. the first day in the year that women wear skirts over bare legs in springtime-CC).
Take note of the contemporary element in the photos: sitting on their bicycle all the girls are somehow engaged with their mobile phone.’
